Michelin Airless Tires: No more Spare Tire

The conventional air inflated automobile tires though popular have their fair share of disadvantages. The air inflated tires can easily be punctured and also can burst under certain conditions which might lead to a serious accident of the vehicle. Also, they need to be fitted on to a wheel. So, Michelin had introduced their latest innovation called the Michelin Tweel. Tweel is essentially an airless tire by Michelin developed to solve the problem attached to conventional air inflated tire and wheel.

The Michelin Tweel is a complete airless radial tire and a wheel assembly. The outer layer is a semi-rigid shear beam that forms a flexible mechanical spring. A wheel present at the center. The wheel and the shear beam are connected by high-strength poly-resin spokes.

Advantages of the Michelin Airless Tires, the Tweel:

1. The load hangs from the top which results in the following
  •     Low contact pressure
  •     Operator comfort
  •     Low overall mass
2. Since it is an airless tire, it is practically puncture proof and burst proof.
